Ok.. so I had to drive route one today and when I left he post office parking lot I timed myself for 10 minutes and then stopped.. I knew I would be on hwy 224.. which is a scenic byway that follows the Missouri River .. and was the original route into Lexington from Kansas City. When I hit my 10 minute mark there was this building to the left of me and the river to the right.. since I couldn't see the river too well over the dike... I chose this building.. and to my surprise it was in the 10 minute range.. and I already had a picture of it.. so... I'm gonna cheat a little.. I did not take this pic today.. but it is in the 10 minute time zone and I did take it on my very own cell fone.. on one of the last times I ran the route..( besides.. I forgot to take my camera with me and I been having problems with emailing and sending of messages from my camera.. because I actually did take a pic today and send it.. but it's not here yet.. so it's a good thing I did have a pic in my files of my 10 minute mark on my drive today! )

So this week I had to think of a song title that would go with some pictures I have on hand.

How about "ICE ICE , BABY"... Vanilla Ice 

 I took this picture of a frozen waterfall this winter.. with my fone since I went out on a hike with my Vivitar and the dang thing wouldn't work! I crawled up behind the water fall to get  this shot

2. Spirited enjoyment; gusto

I think the second definition fits here.. my pup.. she has a zest for bubbles. she can leap about 6 foot plus into the air to get her beloved bubbles.  All you have to do is even whisper the word bubble and she gets all excited!  If you look straight above her you will see the bubble she is zestfully leaping for!  She definitely has a spirited enjoyment of bubbles!

to enjoy our freedoms.. we have lost a few good men and women in wars.  This is my brother.. he  went to Desert Storm shortly after this picture was taken..  he returned to us.. but many others did not .. in that war and many others..   so when I think of freedom.. I think of people like my brother.. who defend our country and our rights and our freedoms.

well this one has been rather difficult for me to decide!  I think  I will go with:

" extremely or excessively elaborate "  as in this home that has a elaborate front porch and extravangant iron fenceworks around it.  A sign of the times when this was built that these folks had the money to spare and spared no expenses!

 

 

 

 

(course the  defintion that states "extremely or unreasonably high priced" would work well with a picture of the gas pices!!!! LOL! )

  This week's theme is roadside. Every corner of the Earth is different.. what makes my corner unique??

  Lexington is a unique town in itself. We have several civil war era houses.. some with the slave quarters still intact.  There's the Battlefield where the South won. We have Block 42.. which back in the day was infamous for the bars and brothels.. but now houses antique shops.  We used to have a huge old iron bridge spanning the Missouri.. but they blew that up two summers ago.. and built a safe one.. one you couldn't see the water thru!  (and if my scanner was working I would post a pic of that !) We have some brick streets left. We have huge old trees!!!   And I think Missouri is home to some very interesting bugs and creepy crawlies..  but I think what is unique to Lexington is the cannon ball in the courthouse!   Remmenant of the Civil war battle that took place here in town.. a Yankee cannon ball .. permanently lodged in a Rebel courthouse..  and in fact, our courthouse is the oldest this side of the  Missouri.. and in use still!

camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing,  swimming.. oh man!  I love summer!  That's the best season in the whole year!   We won't be going as far  this year as a result of the fuel prices, but we will get in some camping.. I think the best part of camping is the fact that you get to get away from all the insanity and relax and get back to nature!

When we camp we always have a big ol fire going..  and I love to sit in the evenings and just stare off into the flames... one can get lost in thought . Oh sure.. I could post a picture of swimming or of fishing or something like that.. but I think I will post this picture of a bonfire we had.. I think you may even see a roasted marshmallow if ya look close enough!!!!!! lol!

also...Indian summer, goose summer, so called because of the geese often seen in autumn.

I have gauzy ~like curtains in my computer room.. but then I thought of the flower~girl basket my daughter carried.. it has 'gossamer' bows on both sides of the handles!  Thin and flimsy, like  gauze.. that's about as good as I can get with my camera fone.. lol!   (Again, I could have used the fairy theme...(gossamer wings) but my scanner is gone..

But.. then I also thought immediately of.. GOSSAMER.. from Bugs Bunny.. the big red hairy monster! lol!   So this picture doesn't count because I went to the internet for this one.. but.. he is a gossamer.. lol!!!!!!

The theme this week will be

 'Magical'

Drat.. wouldn't you know it.. I had this whole "fairy " theme for "magical " idea.. and I even had the picture in mind I wanted to post.. but when I got home and started to scan the picture.. the scanner "magically" quit.. I cannot re~start it.. the computer says it can't find the printer.. I even picked the printer up and showed the computer.. "see, here it is.. this is what it looks like , you were just talking to it .." nope.. no go at all.. Drat.

SO.......... I had to browse thru my 'on had fotos' for something MAGICAL.. no unicorns, no fairies, no dragons... nothing.

Of course, there were sunrise/sets.. which are magical in themselves..but not magical enough  that I  wanted to post on them.. having been dis~illusioned about my previous idea.....

I kept stopping on one particular group of fotos.. it's a stretch I think.. .. thinking WAY outside the box this time.. but I took a series of pictures (shameless plug for the rest of the pictures I took..  click link! )

when we went into Lewis and Clark's Caverns up in Montana a couple summers ago.. and they turned out pretty durn good I thought, for being in the dark depths of the Earth..

I find all the formations and crystals almost magical.. like they could be hiding something just around the next formation..  

Watch out.. there be gnomes and things in the dark...

Safe.. I have  had all day to think about that..  I even took a picture of the "avoid backing when possible" sign on the postal truck!  LOL! 

We had a storm  last nite.. we were safe however.. but the trees took a beating.. have several limbs and whole trees down around town. Nickel to quarter sized hail last nite also! But the vinyl siding on the house didn't get beat up that I can see..

I got home just a little while ago and was cruising thru my pics to see what I had..

This one came to my eye.. this was taken back about 12 years ago when my daughter and niece both were babies. My brother and I were on our way to Montana from Missouri in October, with my two and his one in the car also. Thru a blizzard we went. Had to get to a funeral.  At one point I had looked back and saw that the two girls were finally crashed out.. holding hands..  I guess they felt "safer" that way!  Made for a good pic tho!

Well.. this week's theme made me do some thinking..and searching. and more thinking while I did the searching.

what is fragile?  how do you explain fragile?   everyone has a idea of fragile.. egg shells are fragile,  glass is fragile, babies are fragile.. life is fragile.

staying with the "life is Fragile" version. It is very fragile..

this is a sad day in my family's life..  this day is the actual anniversay of my youngest brother's death. He was 21. and how strange that the theme be Fragile. Life can be taken away at any time.. no one is immune from death. We live a fragile existance on this planet.

I was going to bow out this week... but I gave it a bit of thought and will post these two pictures  of my brother's headstone(taken with my vivitar 300Z 35 mm).. Now the stone itself is not Fragile.. but the life it now marks was. .....

I have a few hobbies... which one to I wish to express????? I put up my Marvin Collection as I no longer have a place for it..so that won't be the subject.. So I browsed thru my boxes of pictures.. there's a hobby.. taking pictures! lol!  Trying to think of which hobby to post , trying to see if one of my thousands of pictures jumped out at me.. and i happened to come across one that seems to fit pretty well..

One only needs to walk thru my front door to realise what my hobbies are..  books, music, Native American , wolves, painting, pictures,etc

I took this before I re~arranged the house ..It shows a sampling of a few HOBBIES: 

Painting:I painted my walls with a 'cave~art ' appearance(including handprints and drawings of craetures! ),

Native:  o gee.. I don't know where to begin! so much Native in my house!

 Wolves:  mixed in with the Native stuff..all over my house!

Books:  yup.. I have a library of my own

Music:  think I have a regular music store going on too!

Pictures: one of two ways.. the pictures on my walll and the fact that  this is  a picture.. I love my camera! I'm always taking pictures.. I have stacks of photo albums and boxes of photos not in albums!

oh, and I think it even shows a plant! I like plants too.. have a regular jungle in my home!

and family.. I spose they can be a HOBBY also eh?

But no Marvin.. dang it, I put that collection up!

The second one is of a sunset I took while coming back across the Missouri River to Lexington one nite.. I thougt how neat with the truck window frame around it! this one is with my cell fone!

I think I decided on this picture however, I took it just a few minutes ago when I lit the candle the wolves just glowed.. and I thought  wow! that fits this week's theme quite well! So I quit looking thru pics!

I cannot remember what Jayden (my nephew) was watching on TV this day( probably was Spongebob!)  ..but what ever it was had him totally astounded! or Gob~smacked....
