These are some rock paintings that were near a ancient Native ruin in New Mexico.. wish I knew what they meant.. but I don't.
This is Shiprock in New Mexico. Near Farmington.
It is a volcano plug, just like The Devil's Tower in Wyoming that i had blogged about previously.
and as the previous one. it is steeped in mystery. It is said that no one has climbed Ship rock and lived.
It is named thusly because of the shape it takes.. it is to be a 3 masted clipper ship. I personally do not see the ship, never have. But out in the middle of nowhere, this is the only formation around. So I guess one could see where it would appear to be a ship in the middle of the desert.
You cannnot get very close to Ship Rock. I think I got with in a couple miles of it for this picture.
I really enjoyed living in New Mexico.. I got to go several neat places while there.
another view of Ship Rock.. In the previous post if u look close at the base.. there is a hogan... a house. It is private property around the area.. so that is the main reason one cannot get close. The other is that they do not want any one trying to climb it... apparantly some have. This is also located on the Navajo Reservation.
