OK ... this is not my poem... it was written by my 5th grade teacher in East Helena, Montana..
Her name is / was Mrs. Macaskill. I do not know if she is still around or if that is still her name.. our music teacher put it to music and we sang this song in the spring program in 1979. I still remember the melody and the words after all these years... and it is one of the few things I can play on piano.
This is a beautiful song.. and I would like to share it with you now:
Do you remember when
The forests were tall and the daisys were sweet
When the mossy carpet beneath our feet
Was soft and green
When life's shadows were painted on our souls.
Like a silken tapestry, like a silken tapestry.
When the songs floated in freshness
And slept beside a stream
When the wind carved his rhythm in the wind swept willow and pine
And the music was soft as it echoed off the rocks
Into the peaceful country side, like a silken tapestry.
When love grew wild like entangled vines
When you needed me and I needed you--
When the laughter came from our young happy hearts
And our captive souls were free, like a silken tapestry.
Do you remember when
We laughed in the sunshine and ran in the rain
When we washed away our pain
With the friendship that came but never shall go
When we shared our dreams in a place called yesterday
Weave your smile within me, like a silken tapestry.
When love grew wild like entangled vines
When you needed me and I needed you--
When the laughter came from our young happy hearts
And our captive souls were free, like a silken tapestry.
And our captive souls were free, like a silken tapestry.
